Worship

Our life together as a community of faith is built around the joy we experience through worship. Worship services deepen our relationship with God and with each other so that we might live out our commitment to our Lord.

Worship is at the core of the life of Holy Trinity.  The rich life of worship consists of corporate worship, personal prayer, devotions, meditation, and music.  Corporate worship is when we unite ourselves with others to acknowledge the holiness of God, to hear God’s word, to offer prayers, and to celebrate the sacraments. All are welcome to join in worship and giving thanks to a loving and ever-present God.

Services include readings from the Bible as appointed for each Sunday. This schedule of readings is called The Lectionary. Prayers include intercessions and petitions by members for themselves and others.

Many persons participate in the preparation for the worship services. Lay ministry is vital to the context of worship. The Altar Guild and Flower Guild are two of our most active.

On some occasions, instrumental musical offerings and concerts are scheduled. Our church is blessed with a glorious Visser Roland Tracker organ.

Altar & Flower Guilds

Members of the congregation serve God by preparing for the services, as well as for baptisms, weddings, funerals, and other special services. Training is available for interested persons.

ALTAR GUILD cares for the sanctuary of our church, setting the Lord’s Table for Eucharistic Services, and all of the elements that are used in worship.

  • To provide for the furnishing and decorations of the altar and to take due and reverent care of its appointments
  • To furnish and care for the vestments of its Rector
  • To purchase supplies of wafers, wine, candle oil, water, and cleaning supplies as needed
  • Weekly availability of each team for assigned duty

FLOWER GUILD designs and creates floral arrangements to decorate the church for services. They also deliver flowers to those in need of encouragement.

Worship Leaders

ACOLYTES assist in worship by carrying a processional cross, lighting candles, holding the Gospel book, holding candles or “torches.”

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS assist ordained clergy with the celebration of the Lord’s Supper and the distribution of Holy Communion.

LAY READERS read the Scripture Lessons at each service and lead the congregation in praying the Psalms and intercessory prayers.

USHERS & GREETERS serve as greeters to welcome and assist all who attend services. They also distribute service leaflets and receive the offerings.

Choir & Music

Music enhances spirituality, worship, and promotes a sense of community at Holy Trinity and in the village of Oxford. Music is an integral part of the worship service to enhance the liturgy of the day and throughout the church calendar year. Hymns, anthems and special music grace our services. The adult choir supports all services. The choir is open to all who enjoy singing. Learn more about our music program here.
